Your master's degree journey

Year one

Learn the core

Begin your master's degree journey by building the foundation of your knowledge.

This means that for the first and second terms you'll complete mandatory core courses.

Practice

In this year you'll also complete an internship as part of the program, lasting 3 - 6 months; or if you are an MIE student you can complete the Summer Entrepreneurship Program.

Year two

Customize your program

Create an individual study plan that suits your career goals:

  • Choose from 35+ electives* including core courses from the other 2 master programs and finance subjects for the ESMT Finance Certificate
  • 15+ international exchange options, including the new Global Impact Program (GIP) with the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce in the US

A highly international class...

149 students are currently enrolled in the three master programs at ESMT Berlin. Their average age is 23 and they are a highly international cohort, with 76% coming to study from outside of Germany and 45% coming from outside of Europe. In total, the master students in this cohort represent 49 nationalities.

...from a variety of academic backgrounds

Students of the three master's degree courses at ESMT come from a variety of academic backgrounds. Business studies and management students comprise the largest share but the majority of students are coming to ESMT with degrees from a range of other topics including Economics, IT, communications or engineering.

Vali Berlin is the entrepreneurship hub at ESMT Berlin and fosters responsible entrepreneurship for economic, environmental, and social value creation.

Global Impact Program (GIP)

Embark on a transformative experience with the GIP, in collaboration with UVA's McIntire School of Commerce. MGM students will spend Term 4 in Charlottesville engaging in a carefully crafted curriculum, then return to Berlin with UVA students to work together on the social impact project.  

This immersive exchange brings together two world-class business schools in two major economies, preparing students to inspire and lead change in global organizations.

Frequently asked questions

What are the requirements for ESMT's master programs?

The admission requirements differ for each of our master programs. You can find out more about the admission requirements for each program here:

Generally speaking, candidates should ensure that the the following statements apply to them:

  • You hold a previous degree (at least Bachelor's equivalent) with excellent grades. If you are finishing your undergraduate studies within the next year, your application will also be considered. 
  • You are Recently graduated, with no more than 24 months of postgraduate work experience (excl. internships) 
  • You can provide evidence of English language proficiency
  • You can provide evidence of strong quantitative skills or have excellent GMAT, GMAT Focus or GRE scores

What is the application deadline?

The application deadline for master programs starting in September 2025 is July 31, 2025.

This is a soft-deadline: Applications received after this point will still be considered, but we recommend applying before this deadline in order to secure your space on the program.

Do you offer scholarships or financial support?

Yes, there are a range of scholarships available to remove barriers to entry. ESMT Berlin also offers access to a range of loan programs.

Is it possible to study for a master's degree part-time?

No, all of the master's degree courses at ESMT Berlin are full-time programs.

However according to German laws and regulations, students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week as working students while still maintaining their student status.

If you are able to balance the priorities of a master's degree program and a part-time job without negatively affecting your studies then this option is open for you to pursue.
